Regular Maintenance and Replacement Cycle for Air Filters

The air filter is often referred to as the "lungs" of a diesel engine, as its condition directly affects the engine's power output and fuel efficiency. When operating in dusty environments, the air filter element quickly accumulates dirt and dust, increasing intake resistance. This leads to reduced engine power, higher emissions of black smoke, and increased fuel consumption. During maintenance, always follow the guidelines outlined in the equipment’s service manual or heed the indications provided by the filter differential pressure gauge. For dry paper filters, gently tap them or blow low-pressure air inward from the inside out to clean; however, never use water or oil for cleaning. Typically, after several successful cleanings, the filter element should be replaced—damaged or worn-out filters must not be reused. Otherwise, fine particles could enter the cylinder, accelerating wear on the piston rings and cylinder liners.
