The standard replacement procedure for engine oil and oil filters

2025-11-14

Engine oil plays multiple roles within a diesel engine, including lubrication, cooling, cleaning, and rust prevention.

Engine oil plays multiple critical roles within a diesel engine, including lubrication, cooling, cleaning, and rust prevention. As operating time accumulates, the oil gradually oxidizes, becomes contaminated, and its additives begin to deplete. Therefore, it is essential to strictly follow the manufacturer's recommended service intervals—based on either operating hours or mileage—and replace both the engine oil and the oil filter at these intervals. When performing the task, allow the engine to cool down after running before draining the oil through the drain plug located at the oil pan. Once the old oil has completely drained, replace the drain plug gasket with a new one and tighten it securely. Next, install the fresh oil filter, applying a small amount of new oil to the sealing ring to ensure a proper seal. Finally, top up the engine with new oil of the specified grade and viscosity, ensuring the level reaches the recommended mark. Adhering to this standardized oil-change procedure is one of the most effective ways to extend the lifespan of your engine.
